Brown County IGA offers scores of specialty products every day, and those are the responsibility of General Merchandise Manager Jack Leonard.

"Specialty products are those items requested by customers on a regular basis," Jack says. "We generally have people request some kind of specialty item every week."

The specialty item might be a food item, a housewares product, even a rare chocolate sauce. "Somehow we find a place for them, although I sometimes wonder how we do," he grins.

Jack said sometimes he orders one item in a product line, and if it's well received soon they're carrying multiple products from that same manufacturer; one example is Breton crackers.

"I think we do a pretty good job of offering specialty products," Jack says. "One week we'll have a shelf stacked with specialty items, then the next week we have one of those products on a regular basis," he says.

Laughingly referring to himself as a glorified stock boy, Jack says he enjoys regular contact with the customers as well as his colleagues.

"I could have retired by now, but I really enjoy all the people I see here," he says. "Besides," he laughs, "here I stay out of my wife's hair."
